The definition of “hero” according to the Merriam-Webster website are as follows:
1. a.) mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability
b.) an illustrious warrior
c.) a person admired for achievements and noble qualities
d.) one who shows great courage
2. a.) the principal character in a literary or dramatic work —used specifically of a principal male character especially when contrasted with heroine
b.) the central figure in an event, period, or movement
Traditionally, National Heroes Day was/is being celebrated to honor the heroes/leaders who represented the national aspiration for independence.
In the present time, our Overseas Filipino Workers became the face of modern heroes. Fresh from the pandemic, medical professionals who where at the frontlines of the pandemic war emerged as heroes as well.
Individually, we could have our own personal interpretation of what a hero is and what a hero should be. For us, it is the people who constantly strive to become the best version of themselves to serve the community to the best of their abilities.
In our small bubble we have individuals who help make our vision to empower and digitize local businesses a reality day by day. In their own ways, they make personal sacrifices to deliver products to our customers so that they can provide for their families. Coordinate with local businesses, manage expectations, and improve our relationship with customers. They are heroes in our book.
May we never forget the heroes that paved the way for our independence. But, may we also strive for the qualities that make us heroes to our friends, family and community.
