1. NEVER, EVER Look for Igorots.
Igorots are everywhere. It is a collective term for “Mountain People” which Baguio by the way is a City above the mountains. So, it would be extremely wise not to say out loud the magic word “Nasaan kaya ang mga Igorot?” You might end up with a lot of killer stares and a good old sermon from the locals.
2. Do not rant about the traffic. (Utang na loob)
Baguio City is obviously a small city that could not handle large volumes of vehicles. There might be an increase of ownership of private vehicles but the heavy volume particularly during weekends come from tourists. It is advisable to use public transportation better yet do what we do. Walk.
3. Eating at Fast Food restaurants.
We have nothing against Fast Food restaurants. Come on you could eat at a fast food joint anywhere in the world at any given time. But, to experience the delicacy and gastronomic adventure Baguio City has to offer is more than your stomach and taste buds could handle. We tried and the flavors just exploded. Suport local.
4. NOT TRYING TO EAT VEGETABLES!
Majority of the Vegetables in the country are grown in the Cordilleras. This is a rare chance to taste a mouth watering, fresh, and crunchy piece of vegetable. The carnivore beneath you could hold off the craving even for just one meal right?
5. Throwing your garbage anywhere!
During peak tourist seasons are also a time for a peak volume of garbage throughout the city. We would highly appreciate it if you could throw your garbage at trash bin. If, it the one you saw is already full it would be real awesome if you could find another bin instead.
6. Spending most time in Malls.
This is not Manila wherein Malls are considered as tourist attractions. Our mountains might not be as awesome as they used to be but Baguio City has still a lot of attractions that you would still enjoy to see.
7. Going home without a plastic of shopped Ukay-ukay.
Everyone knows that Baguio City is not only the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” but also the “Ukay-Ukay Capital of the Philippines.” Your money would come a long way when you shop at our various ukay places.
8. Stopping on the middle of the sidewalk to take a selfie.
There is nothing wrong about taking a selfie. But seriously, stopping in the middle of the sidewalk all of a sudden to take a selfie. Definitely not cool.
9. Fighting for taxi.
Come on we are all civilized and educated people. Waiting in line is the way to go.
10. Asking the question “May buntot ba ang mga Igorot.”
No explanation needed. Excuse my language but this is just plain dumb.
