What is the Baguio that you want?

Ano ang Baguio na gusto mo?

Anya ti Baguio nga kayat mo?

I have been attending this gatherings by the group “The Baguio We Want” over the past two months. Attending their events makes me somewhat want to cringe about the realities our city is facing today.

I am not against the idea of progress and development but, at how much of a price would we have to pay in order to attain the progress that we seek?

Personally, “The Baguio We Want” movement is somewhat just the Baguio that I want. It is not yet a collective want for a city with an increasingly growing population.

Let me ask you then. What is the Baguio that you want?

What do you wish to happen to Baguio City in the next 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 years?

What Baguio do you want to your children or grandchildren to see? Is it the same Baguio that you see now or would you wish for something better?

Is it only me or us that wants a clean city with a pristine fresh cool air to greet you throughout the day? Is it only me or us that wants urbanization and development but with considerations to its effect on culture and the environment?

Is it only me that wants to pause development so that we could assess the damage?

It is true that we want Baguio City to flourish and still be visited by millions of tourist every year. This is one of the reasons why we created this site is to help tourists and locals by providing relevant and quality information.

But, for a small moment could we just pause and look at what happened to Baguio City?

It is in our hope that at the soonest time there will be a unanimous answer to this question.

What is the Baguio that “we” want?
